The Tides of Our Lives

Harvey Bay Tide 2

Sometimes the tides of our lives make it near impossible to go anywhwere, to set sail. But don’t give up. As surely as tides go out, they also come back in — sometimes with a surge.

A Peaceful Moment

a peaceful garden scene

Autumn arrives. The air chills, the earth moistens, and leaves fade and fall. Rake leaves; then stop and stare. A moment of peace. One that lingers.

As a writer, time out, time in the garden, is precious; especially when the sun bursts through on a grey, cool, wet day.

Thanks also to readers of my latest book, Fraying: Mum, memory loss, the medical maze and me, for writing comments on this blog. It’s great hearing from readers, particularly those who really relate to the story, or the character my mother was … and continues to be in print.

For MELBOURNE (Australia) readers, my next talk is on Mother’s Day Eve, (9 May at 2.30pm) in conversation with Morag Fraser at the artists’ colony, Montsalvat (in the Barn Gallery). $15 gets you entry, a glass of wine and nibbles, and the conversation, which is guaranteed to be memorable. Bookings required: (03)9439 7712.

For more information about Fraying, and associated events, or to listen to an ABC podcast interview with the author about the book, check out my website: http://www.michelegierck.com.au

Slow Down, Look Around … Amazing!

A little plant and a drop of rain. Look closely. Can you see the garden in the raindrop on the berry? What a delight. How amazing life can be when we slow down, look around, and spot what’s around us.

Michele’s new book, Fraying: Mum, memory loss, the medical maze and me, will be released on 2 March, 2015.

To hear Michele speak about her book, and her story, listen to Richard Fidler’s conversations program on the ABC’s Radio National on Wednesday 25 February.

The interview will be podcast and archived online, so wherever in the world you are, whatever time of day, you’ll be able to listen to the 55 minute interview.

Inspiration FromThe Simple Things In Life

A favourite photo, a favourite luscious bloom, a favourite time of year. The simple things in life can be so inspiring.

This tree is a eucalyptus silver princess. (The last gift given to me by my mother before she died.) A true treasure. It now stands so tall, so strong, gracing my front garden.
